How to play Coastlane
Drive along a three-lane coastal road for as long as you can. The car moves forward on its own. Switch lanes to avoid the traffic cones coming toward you.
Your first drive
- Choose Gentle coast for a slower start.
- Press Start driving. Look ahead for cones.
- Move into a clear lane before a cone reaches your car.
There is no finish line. A cone ends the current drive. Press Drive again to begin a fresh road.
Keyboard and touch controls
Press the left or right arrow key to move one lane. On a phone, use Steer left and Steer right, or swipe horizontally across the road. Each press or swipe changes one lane; two separate actions can move from one outside lane to the other.
Pause and restart
Pause drive, Space, or P freezes the road. Press Resume drive to continue. Switching away from this tab pauses the game automatically. Restarting a running drive asks you to confirm before it ends.
Choose a pace
Gentle coast starts slower. Steady cruise is faster. Both gradually increase speed, and each pace keeps its own best distance. You can change pace before starting or after a drive ends.
What is the goal of this endless driving game?
Stay on the road, avoid cones, and travel farther than your previous best. Distance is measured in metres. Cones passed is an extra count of obstacles you safely drove beyond.
Do I need to hold down a steering key?
No. Each key press moves one lane. Release the key and press again for a second lane change.
Is there a safe route through the cones?
Each new obstacle occupies one lane, leaving two other lanes open. Watch the cone ahead and allow time for the car to move across.
What is saved when I close the game?
Your selected pace and best distance for each pace stay in this browser. A live drive does not resume after a reload; the next visit begins with a fresh road.
Can I play without signing up?
Yes. Coastlane is a free browser game with keyboard and touch controls. There is no account or download required.
